This is Aardman

Aardman is one of the world's most beloved animation studios. Known for its iconic stop-motion creations, it has inspired countless animators. In its early years, to address the shortage of skilled talent, Aardman established the Aardman Academy, which has since become the number one destination for stop-motion animation training.

But while the Aardman brand is strong, the Aardman Academy has grown organically, resulting in a need for more clarity around its positioning. To unlock its full potential, the Academy needed to establish an identity that could emerge from Aardman's shadow and resonate with aspiring animators.

Crafting Aardman Academy’s story

Halo undertook a detailed analysis of the Aardman Academy's context within the animation training sector. We mapped competitors, including universities and other studios, and identified key audience segments: experienced animators seeking professional development and Aardman fans eager to learn the craft.

We interviewed alumni, tutors, and Aardman staff to understand the Academy's strengths. These included its hands-on, practical approach, the sense of community it fosters, and its unparalleled access to world-class animators as instructors.

Moulding a Distinctive Identity

Our findings informed the development of a brand platform that positioned the Aardman Academy as a place where creativity is nurtured and stories are brought to life. The new brand strategy articulated the Academy's core promise of delivering world-class, independent animation education and invited future animators to "Craft your story."

A Blueprint for the Future

In addition to defining the brand platform, we worked on pricing and marketing strategies. These initiatives ensure the Academy remains accessible while reflecting the value it creates for its students.

By shaping a clear and confident identity, the Aardman Academy is now better equipped to inspire and empower the next generation of animators.
